History Of The Department
The department of Physics was established in 1949.It is one of the oldest departments of the college. It has spacious laboratories equipped with the latest technology. Physics was recognized as a major subject at the B. Sc. level in 1952. The department obtained permanent affiliation in Physics (major) with the University in 1957.

The 4- year degree pattern in B. Sc. was modified to the 3- year pattern in 1977 when the Applied Component subjects of Electronic Instrumentation and Computer Programming were introduced. A degree in Vocational Instrumentation at the B. Sc. level was offered during the academic years 1998 - 2002.

Highlights :
Physics society: This Society was started in the academic year 1979-80, to promote interest in the subject through exhibitions, guest lectures, visits to research institutions etc. The society encourages student involvement in subject related activities and awards students merit certificates and cash prizes for their achievements. Its annual feature is the Science Exhibition PHYZEX.
