Established in 2002, the Department of Biotechnology at Jai Hind College offers a specialized course with updated syllabi, experienced faculty, and well-equipped labs. About the
Joint Coordinators
Dr. Kruti Pandya, with a Ph.D. in biochemistry from TNMMC, is passionate about teaching biotechnology. She has guided many undergraduate research projects and published several papers, often with students. Dr. Pandya is also part of various college committees and boards. Dr. Nissey Sunil has been teaching biotechnology since 2005 and holds a Ph.D. in bioanalytical sciences from the University of Mumbai. She brings experience from both research institutes and corporate R&D to her teaching. Dr. Sunil mentors students in research and aims to make learning enjoyable.

The Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology program covers many areas, including genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, cell biology, bioinformatics, nanotechnology, neurobiology, developmental biology, tissue culture, microbiology, biostatistics, bioethics, intellectual property rights (IPR), biosafety, nutrition and dietetics, research methods, and entrepreneurship. We aim to provide comprehensive knowledge, training, and a supportive environment for aspiring biotechnologists to grow and succeed as an autonomous department.

Genaces
The Department of Biotechnology held its annual festival, Genaces 2023—Bioflix, on January 25, 2023, promoting scientific temperament and entrepreneurship among students. Coordinated by S.Y. B.Sc. students with support from F.Y. and T.Y. students, it featured activities like The Big Shot Game Show and Bioheist, drawing over 140 participants. Special guest Ms. Krishma Shah, cofounder of Clinibiz and a Forbes-featured young entrepreneur, added to the event's success.
Year-Round Activities
The Department of Biotechnology engages students with seminars, workshops, webinars, and visits to research institutes. Highlights include workshops on antimicrobial resistance, webinars on biomedical engineering, and visits to NCMR and ACTREC. During the pandemic, virtual lab tours and webinars ensured continuous learning.
Students Achievements
Students from the Department of Biotechnology have achieved numerous accolades from 2018–2023, including top prizes at the Xplore competitions, Sumitomo Scholarships, and awards at national and international conferences. Highlights include victories at the National Microbiolympiad, Avishkar UG category, and E-Shodh competitions. Several students have also excelled in research publications, presentations, and entrance examinations like IIT-JAM and TIFR GS2021. Their achievements reflect the department's emphasis on academic excellence and research.
