About the
Joint Coordinators
Dr. Kruti Pandya, with a Ph.D. in biochemistry from TNMMC, is passionate about teaching biotechnology. She has guided many undergraduate research projects and published several papers, often with students. Dr. Pandya is also part of various college committees and boards. Dr. Nissey Sunil has been teaching biotechnology since 2005 and holds a Ph.D. in bioanalytical sciences from the University of Mumbai. She brings experience from both research institutes and corporate R&D to her teaching. Dr. Sunil mentors students in research and aims to make learning enjoyable.

The Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology program covers many areas, including genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, cell biology, bioinformatics, nanotechnology, neurobiology, developmental biology, tissue culture, microbiology, biostatistics, bioethics, intellectual property rights (IPR), biosafety, nutrition and dietetics, research methods, and entrepreneurship. We aim to provide comprehensive knowledge, training, and a supportive environment for aspiring biotechnologists to grow and succeed as an autonomous department.

Genaces
Genaces is the annual intercollegiate festival organized by the students of the Department of Biotechnology, first launched in 2007. Over the years, it has evolved into a dynamic platform that nurtures creativity, innovation, leadership, teamwork, and scientific temperament through a variety of intellectually stimulating and enjoyable activities.
Each year, Genaces attracts over 150 participants from prestigious institutions such as KC College, Ruia College, Mithibai College, and St. Xavier’s College—underscoring its growing reputation and intercollegiate appeal.
In addition to its engaging and thoughtfully curated events, the two-day festival has also featured insightful expert sessions by distinguished personalities, including Dr. Girish Mahajan (Vice President, HiMedia) and environmentalist Mr. Vinayak Salunkhe and distinguished alumnus Ms. Krishma Shah (Co-Founder Clinibiz, featured in Forbes) 30 under 30.
Events like Genaces play a crucial role in shaping well-rounded, industry-ready graduates by seamlessly integrating scientific learning with vital life skills, problem-solving abilities, and collaborative experiences.
Year-Round Activities
The Department of Biotechnology engages students with seminars, workshops, webinars, and visits to research institutes. Highlights include workshops on antimicrobial resistance, webinars on biomedical engineering, and visits to NCMR and ACTREC. During the pandemic, virtual lab tours and webinars ensured continuous learning.
Students Achievements
Students from the Department of Biotechnology have achieved numerous accolades including top prizes at research meets, science exhibitions and other intra and intercollegiate competitions. They have consistently been recipients of numerous scholarships, and have won awards at national and international conferences.

- Several students have also excelled in research publications, presentations, sequence submission at NCBI.
- Students have cleared entrance examinations like IIT-JAM and TIFR and have also secured admissions for higher studies in premier institutes in India as well as abroad.
