The Bachelor of Arts in History program at Jai Hind College, established in 1948, offers a deep exploration into humanity's past and its relevance today. About the
HOD
Mrs. Safina Rakhangi, HOD of the History Department, holds an MA, SET qualification, and a PG Diploma in Human Rights with 24 years of experience. She specializes in Medieval and Modern India, Maratha History, and Human Rights. She has authored papers on Rabindranath Tagore, the Indian Constitution, and inclusive education, and has presented on topics such as Bombay's economy and Kashmiri women's human rights at various conferences.

Forum
Research Methodology Workshop (2018-2019):
Prof. (Dr.) Preeta Nilesh guided students on research paper writing techniques, assisting in the preparation for the Annual Student Seminar.
Field Visits:
SYBA students, accompanied by Dr. Archana, visited the CSMVS museum on 8th August 2018. They participated in interactive sessions focusing on the Indus Valley Civilization, Ashokan inscriptions, early Indian art, and conservation techniques, including discussions with craftsmen and conservators.
Community Outreach:
SYBA Foundation Course students, led by Dr. Archana Mishra, visited Ashadaan NGO and undertook internships with various NGOs such as Dignity Foundation, Akansha, and Vatsalya Trust, as part of their community outreach projects
Gender Sensitisation Workshop:
On February 18th, 2019, the film "Boys Who Like Girls" was screened, followed by a session on gender issues and consent by MAVA and TISS. Students created documentaries on relationships and consent, with some participating in MAVA's gender sensitization events.
Annual Student Seminar (2019-2020):
Held on 27th-28th January, 2020, with the theme "History from the Lens of Indian Cinema." Students presented papers at a RUSA-sponsored conference at Xavier’s College, Mumbai, on 11th February, 2020, with selected papers published in a peer-reviewed journal.
Students Achievements
Students of the History Department have excelled in various competitions, winning numerous accolades from 2018-2023. Achievements include top positions in intercollegiate fests like Ruia College's Mudra and Juhunjhunwala College's Hysteria, with awards in poetry, fashion shows, debates, and creative writing. Notable successes include peer-reviewed research paper publications and consistent victories in online and offline events, making the department proud. For three consecutive years, Jai Hind College won the Best College trophy at Ruia College's Mudra Fest.
