The Bachelor of Mass Media program is an innovative and comprehensive program for future media professionals. About the HOD
Sai prasad Shetty is the Head of the Department of Mass Media where he combines academic leadership with a strong commitment to industry-responsive education. His work centres on designing meaningful learning experiences with particular interests in content strategy, curriculum development, and experiential learning. Over the years, he has played an instrumental role in shaping the department’s academic direction, fostering industry engagement, and building platforms that enable students to engage with contemporary media cultures and professions. He has been closely involved in conceptualising initiatives such as the Jai Hind Media Conclave, strengthening collaborations with practitioners, and curating a range of workshops, guest lectures, and skill-based learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. Drawing from a professional background that spans content development, communications, research, and development-sector consulting. He brings an interdisciplinary perspective to media education. His approach is guided by the belief that media education must cultivate critical thinking, creativity, and adaptability, preparing students not only for evolving careers in communication and media industries but also for meaningful engagement with society at large.

The Department of Mass Media at Jai Hind College offers the Bachelor of Mass Media, a top-notch undergraduate program that equips students for careers in journalism, broadcasting, advertising, public relations, and digital media. IRIS:
Founded in 2005, IRIS (INSIGHT, RESILIENT, INNOVATE, SUCCESS) is the society of the Department of Life Science. It hosts seminars and workshops with top experts to keep students informed about the latest trends and help them advance in their careers.
Field Trips and Excursion:
The department organizes a yearly trip to help students learn about nature. During these trips, students explore various wildlife sanctuaries in India and learn about the importance of protecting the environment.
Department E-magazine “The Catalyst”:
The Catalyst, the official magazine of the Department, launched under the aegis of I.R.I.S. The magazine stands as a testament to the energy, creativity, and dedication of our students and faculty over the past academic year. The Catalyst captures the vibrant spirit of our department, showcasing a rich tapestry of research articles, creative writing, sketches, and photography contributed by our talented students. It also provides a platform for our faculty members to share their perspectives, fostering a deeper sense of connection within our academic community.
Humans of JHC Life Sciences:
Humans of JHC Life Sciences is a lecture series that highlights the journeys and experiences of alumni from the Department of Life Sciences. It offers students valuable hands-on learning through direct interactions with alumni, giving them insights into real-world challenges, career paths, and personal growth.
Cinema Scientifica:
Cinema Scientifica, is a science movie club organized by the Department of Life Sciences for students who love movies/documentaries and are curious about the world around them. The objective of this club is to explore science through cinema, encourage media literacy, develop critical thinking, enhance communication skills, cultivate a passion for scientific films, and inspire creativity. Cinema Scientifica serves as a vibrant platform for students to deepen their understanding of science while enjoying the art of cinema
Internship:
The department actively facilitates internship opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience and bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world applications. The department collaborates with various reputed institutes, laboratories and research institutions to provide internships tailored to students’ areas of interest and specialization. Internships span across diverse domains like Stem cells, In-vitro fertilization, Animal tissue culture, Molecular biology; areas that are relevant to the department’s focus.. These experiences not only improve technical proficiency but also foster soft skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.
Student Achievement:
Students have achieved significant recognition in research meets, winning top prizes and receiving awards like Best Innovative Researcher. They have also published their work in national journals and contributed to research compendiums. Many have excelled in competitive exams such as JGEEBILS, GATE-XL, NET, SET and IIT-JAM, with some pursuing advanced degrees. Scholarships like Sumitomo and Priyadarshini have been awarded to several students for their exceptional performances.
