Basic Information

BRIEF INFORMATION

The history of Jai Hind College library dates back to 1948 with the inception of Jai Hind College.  The library was named in 1969 as “T.M. Advani Memorial Library” in the loving memory of late Principal T.M. Advani.

The library has a rich collection of books consisting of a wide variety and subscribes to daily journals, periodicals, and magazines. The library has a comprehensive reference collection of encyclopedias, handbooks, dictionaries, atlas, etc.

Dewey decimal classification system is followed to classify books in the library. The Library provides Open Access Facility since 90’s. The library has a wide range of novels in different languages and other light reading material catering to diverse interests. The library collection includes languages like English, Marathi, Hindi, Sindhi, Gujarati, Sanskrit and French.

The Library has a Reading Room Committee to support the functioning of the library so that it can facilitate the library development plans by advocating the library development activities. The purpose of the Reading Room Committee is to act as a channel of communication and dialogue between the Library and its users.

Library uses SLIM21 software and is fully computerized library with online functional modules like Book acquisition, circulation, catalog, serials, etc.

E-Library consists of E-Journals, Online access to subscribed Print journals, Thesis, teachers publications, lectures, seminar / conference proceedings, Link of open access e –books suggested by teachers, In house publications, etc.  E-Library is accessible on Intranet. Library provides free access to its members.

The Library provides access to NLIST. All e-resources subscribed for the college under the NLIST project are now accessible to the library through the NLIST website. The remote access of these resources includes database, e-journals and e – books accessible to the faculty, students and researchers free of cost. Library member has to register to avail N List personal user id and password. Registration link for this membership is provided in the e-resources. The articles can be accessed and downloaded directly from the publisher’s website. Jai Hind Library has featured in Top 10 users list of NLIST.

For personalized information, Members are requested to click on  My Info  to get online library services like books issued till date, to find due date of the book issued.

Online Reservation of a book

Library members can reserve issued book online. Visit Web OPAC. Give User id and password details in My Info and reserve issued book. Note the due date of the book issued and claim the book on that day.

Online Request of a book

Students can be part of the library collection development. They can suggest books to the Library through online Propose a book Form. Visit Web OPAC. Give User id and password details in My Info and click on Propose tab, fill in the form and submit. You can check the status of the requested book in the proposals list.

Access to E-journals subscribed and E access to print journals is available in the journals section of the Web OPAC.

Students are encouraged to go through the books displays on different themes like Dr. Kalam: Life and his work, autobiographies, Gandhi: Life and his work, language books, Legislation Day, Ekta Diwas, Vijay Din, and latest books
purchased by the library and many more topics. Student’s response to these book displays is overwhelming. A display helps students to know the library collection on various subjects. E Library

E-LIBRARY provides access to the E- material available in the library to the library users. Collection of video lectures, Journal Articles, Phd Thesis and Research projects of teachers, Seminar presentations conducted in the college, department magazines, archive of college magazine “Saraswati” since 1948, question papers, etc. E-Library can be accessed through LAN in the college.

Digital Library

Digital Library offers DVD/CD ROM screening facility to staff and students. It contains two computers equipped with headphones and a collection on various topics listed below:

MOVIES, CDS ACCOMPANIED WITH BOOKS, INTERVIEWS, CAREER APTITUDE/IQ TEST, DICTIONARY,  ENCYCLOPAEDIA, E-BOOKS MAPS, SOCIAL DOCUMENTARIES, GAZETTEER, YOGA LANGUAGE LEARNING, EXCLUSIVE SINDHI COLLECTION, MANAGEMENT, MUSIC, SCIENCES/LAB PRACTICALS

Remote access of these resources includes databases, e-journals and e-books accessible to the faculty, students, and researchers free of cost. Library member has to register to avail of N List personal user id and password. The registration link for this membership is provided in the e-resources. Access and downloading ofthe articles is possible directly from the publisher’s website. Students are encouraged to read online e-resources available related to their syllabus. Students are informed about this service through library alerts.

Use of Social media

The library is connected to its clientele through Library whatsapp groups, Telegram email. Social media is used to make students acquainted with the library rules, policies, library activities and to clear their queries about the library facilities. This connectivity helped the library department to remain in touch with the students during the pandemic. Students approach the librarian directly to get help accessing resources.
