About the
department

The Department of Commerce at Jai Hind College, established in 1980, has been instrumental in shaping the careers of students in Business Management, Administration, Marketing, and Finance. With four dedicated faculty members, the department is committed to delivering quality education and balancing theoretical learning with practical exposure. In addition to its B.Com. programs, the department also provides lectures in the Arts faculty for Economics/Commerce combinations. Our goal is to transform students from readers into leaders. Ms. Reshma Jaisinghani, Vice-Principal of Commerce, has also served as the Head of the Department since March 2023.

Dr. Reshma Jaisinghani serves as Assistant Professor and Vice Principal of Commerce, effective May 1, 2022, and as Head of the Accountancy Department, effective October 1, 2022. She holds an Mcom degree, a Bachelor's degree in Education (B.Ed.), and has qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET). Her area of specialization is Financial Accounting and Financial Management. With 16 years of experience, Dr. Jaisinghani has made significant contributions to research, having written, contributed to, and published five research papers.

The Commerce Department at Jai Hind College is one of the most popular and dynamic departments, offering a range of courses at the B.Com. and B.A. levels. Renowned for its entrepreneurial activities, the department established an Entrepreneurship Cell in 2008. This E-cell has since become the most vibrant and dynamic cell at Jai Hind College, actively fostering innovation and providing numerous opportunities for students to develop their entrepreneurial skills. It regularly hosts workshops, seminars, and competitions to encourage and support budding entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurship Cell

The Entrepreneurship Cell offers a wealth of opportunities for entrepreneurial learning, transforming individuals with innovative ideas into self-driven leaders of productivity and growth. Our mission is to foster a dynamic ecosystem that inspires, educates, and supports aspiring entrepreneurs, with the vision of shifting students from job seekers to job creators.

Entrepreneurial Idea Awards

The Entrepreneurship Idea Awards (EIA) is a 20-day program designed for participants keen on advancing their business ideas. The program includes a week of training by industry experts, followed by the creation of a business model canvas with the support of our volunteers. In the finals, participants pitch their ideas to a panel of judges. The event also includes working with entrepreneurs with disabilities, offering students a unique perspective on entrepreneurship. Student Achievements:

Students from the Commerce Department have achieved notable success with their innovative start-ups. Ventures include artist management and event promotion, rental consultancy for students, health and fitness services, and eco-friendly products. Other achievements feature customized gift hampers, philanthropic recycling initiatives, and community support services. Students have also launched unique businesses such as handmade accessories, designer masks, and specialized food and beverage services. These accomplishments reflect the department's focus on nurturing entrepreneurial talent and diverse business ideas.
