Department of Life Sciences (B.Sc)

About the
department

Founded in 1992, our Life Sciences Department offers a diverse range of bioscience topics, including biotechnology, genetics, immunology, and environmental science. Graduates can advance in specialized fields or pursue an MBA in pharmaceutical management. Through IRIS, our department hosts workshops, internships, and seminars and practices “The Golden Hour,” where teachers are available to assist with any academic or personal issues. We aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of biosciences, preparing students to be versatile researchers and scholars.

IRIS:

Founded in 2005, IRIS (INSIGHT, RESILIENT, INNOVATE, SUCCESS) is the society of the Department of Life Science. It hosts seminars and workshops with top experts to keep students informed about the latest trends and help them advance in their careers.

Field Trips and Excursion:

The department organizes a yearly trip to help students learn about nature. During these trips, students explore various wildlife sanctuaries in India and learn about the importance of protecting the environment.

Department E-magazine “The Catalyst”:

The Catalyst, the official magazine of the Department, launched under the aegis of I.R.I.S. The magazine stands as a testament to the energy, creativity, and dedication of our students and faculty over the past academic year. The Catalyst captures the vibrant spirit of our department, showcasing a rich tapestry of research articles, creative writing, sketches, and photography contributed by our talented students. It also provides a platform for our faculty members to share their perspectives, fostering a deeper sense of connection within our academic community.

Humans of JHC Life Sciences:

Humans of JHC Life Sciences is a lecture series that highlights the journeys and experiences of alumni from the Department of Life Sciences. It offers students valuable hands-on learning through direct interactions with alumni, giving them insights into real-world challenges, career paths, and personal growth.

Cinema Scientifica:

Cinema Scientifica, is a science movie club organized by the Department of Life Sciences for students who love movies/documentaries and are curious about the world around them. The objective of this club is to explore science through cinema, encourage media literacy, develop critical thinking, enhance communication skills, cultivate a passion for scientific films, and inspire creativity. Cinema Scientifica serves as a vibrant platform for students to deepen their understanding of science while enjoying the art of cinema

Internship:

The department actively facilitates internship opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience and bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world applications. The department collaborates with various reputed institutes, laboratories and research institutions to provide internships tailored to students’ areas of interest and specialization. Internships span across diverse domains like Stem cells, In-vitro fertilization, Animal tissue culture, Molecular biology; areas that are relevant to the department’s focus.. These experiences not only improve technical proficiency but also foster soft skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.

Student Achievement:

Students have achieved significant recognition in research meets, winning top prizes and receiving awards like Best Innovative Researcher. They have also published their work in national journals and contributed to research compendiums.
