department
Established in 1949, the Department of Chemistry at Jai Hind College is the institution’s oldest and largest department, recognized for its longstanding tradition of academic excellence. Offering a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Chemistry and Master of Science (M.Sc.) programs in Physical, Inorganic, Organic and Analytical Chemistry. The department provides a comprehensive education in the chemical sciences. The recent introduction of a Ph.D. program underscores its strong commitment to research, innovation, and the development of future leaders in the field.
About the
HOD
Prof. Dr. Sangeeta Parab is a professor in Chemistry and also serves as Vice Principal Science since June 2022. Working for an institution since 2003. With experience of over 27 years and handling various prominent positions at academic, research and administration level. Research guide in chemistry , have guided 3 M.Sc. by research students and completed 5 research projects at UGC and University level. Published more than 25 research papers in various national and international journals. Published 5 book chapters and one book on ‘ANALYTICAL EXAMINATION OF THE EFFECTS OF HEAVY METAL CONTAMINATION’ Currently enrolled students for Ph.D.

Department is a recipient of DST FIST and DBT STAR Scheme of Government of India. Our experienced faculty is dedicated to providing high-quality, internationally recognized education. The Department of Chemistry continues to be a cornerstone of scientific inquiry and academic advancement at Jai Hind College.

Activities Under the Department
The Department of Chemistry organized a two-day workshop titled “Practicing Science: Scope, Perspectives, and Vision,” featuring talks by leading scientists and practical sessions on lab safety, calibration, and mass spectrometry. This event provided valuable insights into scientific practices and advanced techniques. Additionally, the department hosted workshops on high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), offering hands-on experience with these analytical tools. To celebrate the International Year of the Periodic Table, a series of events included talks, documentaries, and demonstrations, enriching students' knowledge of metal analysis and alloying.
Student Achievement:
Students achieved significant success with notable research publications and awards. M.Sc. Chemistry students published papers in renowned journals, while T.Y. B.Sc. students won first place in XPLORE and participated in Avishkar. Jai Hind College secured the overall winner's trophy at the St. Xavier’s Chemistry Festival, with top positions in various events. Additionally, Kosha Shah was recognized for outstanding contributions to the Chemical Society.
