About the
department
The Department of Political Science aims to nurture students into enlightened and responsible citizens. We offer courses that cover several major subfields of Political Science, including the Indian Constitution, Political Theory, Public Administration, Public Policy, Political Thought, and International Relations. Political Science prepares students for diverse careers in law, academia, journalism, public policy, government, bureaucracy, and business, among many others.
The Department provides students with opportunities to develop leadership qualities, organizational skills, and decision-making abilities through academics and departmental activities organized under the aegis of the ‘Political Science Forum.’ The Forum hosts engaging and relevant activities such as the Annual Students’ Seminar, Youth Parliament, Group Discussions, Debates, Quizzes, and Field Visits, which help students gain practical knowledge of the subject, develop various skills, and showcase their talent. The students of the Department take the initiative to organize these activities and contribute their ideas to make them captivating and unique each year.
About the
HOD
A one-person Department, the Political Science Department is headed by Dr. Reema Julka since 2008. She is on the Admission Committee, Unfair Means Committee, College Development Committee, and the Chairperson of the Political Science Forum.
Message from
the HOD
Political Science has been taught since the inception of the College in 1948. It has always been a popular subject among BA students. The motto of our department is to Expand, Discuss, Express and Understand’. Therefore, students are given ample opportunities not only to gain core knowledge of Political Science but also to develop critical thinking and analytical skills to reflect on national and international political issues and phenomena objectively. These innovative practices ultimately help students in preparing for various competitive exams such as UPSC, MPSC, CLAT, RBI, NET, SET, and many others.

Field Visits and Workshops
The Students are taken on a field visit to the Legislative Assembly, Legislative Council, Mumbai High Court, etc. Several workshops are organized on topics like Public Policy and relevant political issues.
Guest Lectures and Talks
Various guest lectures are organized on current national or international issues sometimes guest lectures are held on topics related to the syllabi.
Student's Seminar
Every year an annual Student's Seminar is organized to allow students to inculcate research and presentation skills.
The Youth Parliament
This event is organized to help students understand the actual proceedings of the House and to inculcate debating skills and leadership qualities.
Commemoration of Important Days
The Political Science Forum organizes several events to celebrate significant days e.g., UN DAY, Constitution Day, Human Rights Day, Youth Day, Van Mahotsav, and many more.
