Brief Information
The history of Jai Hind College library dates back to 1948 with the inception of Jai Hind College. Subsequently the library was renamed, in 1969 after the late Principal T.M. Advani, and is known as the T.M. Advani Memorial library.

The library has a rich collection of nearly 76381 and subscribes to about 16 dailies and 20 journals and 68 periodicals 21 complimentary magazines. The library has a comprehensive reference collection containing encyclopedias, handbooks, dictionaries, atlas, etc.

The library has wide range of novels in different languages & other light reading material catering to diverse interests. The library collection includes languages like English, Marathi, Hindi, Sindhi, Gujarati, Sanskrit, French and Urdu.

Classification System
Dewey decimal classification system is followed to classify books in the library. The library updates the editions of DDC as and when required, as new subjects are introduced. Currently the library is using the 23rd edition of DDC.

Monday to Saturday
8.40 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
During Exam Days:
Monday to Saturday
8.40 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. (Classroom for studies after 5.30 p.m.)
Sunday: 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. (Classroom for studies)

Special Features
  • Open access: We are proud to announce that in the academic year 1967 Jai Hind College library had taken initiative to start the Open shelf library which led to complete open access Library in the academic year1992-93.

The Project entitled "National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N-LIST) is being jointly executed by the UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium, INFLIBNET Centre and the INDEST-AICTE Consortium, IIT Delhi. All e-resources subscribed for the college under the N-LIST Project are now accessible to Jai Hind college Library through the N-LIST website, http://nlist.inflibnet.ac.in

These resources includes more than 3100+ e-journals and 75,000 + e-books The N-LIST project provides access to e-resources to students, researchers and faculty from college through server(s) installed at the INFLIBNET Centre. Library members have to login user id and password provided by the library staff to the servers deployed at the INFLIBNET Centre from the college library.

The Library Members can access e-resources and download articles required by them directly from the publisher's website.

Online Case Studies
To provide the study material apart from books the Online case studies of IBS Center for management Research (ICMR) are made available in the library.

Reading Room Activities
A Workshop was organized on “How to manage Money and be a smart Investor”. It was conducted by the Consumer Guidance Society of India (CGI) in association with the National Stock Exchange. Mr. Ankur Mahajan, a financial planner, conducted it and covered the areas like Financial markets and their functions, The difference between debt and equity, the power of compounding, introduction to Rupee cost averaging & time value of money and how to get out of debt and select Insurance & Investment Products. The workshop cut through the jargons and explained concepts and strategies through stories and the students learned How to setup a smart financial plan for themselves. The workshop was followed by an interaction with the participants and the best question was rewarded.

Digital Ink Competition
To provide a platform for the students to share their writing skills in form of poems, book reviews and short stories Digital ink competition was held. The competition was judged by Ms. Paromita Chakravarty, Associate Prof. English Dept. from H.R. College. Ms. Nikita Sharma, Ms. Sakina Tayebji and Ms. Namra Qureshi secured prizes. The winners and participants were awarded certificates for their work.

Fiction Fest
This year Fiction Fest was special as we provided opportunity to promote our own student, Mr. Varun Gwalani his publication titled ‘Believe’. The students were enthusiastic to participate in the “Fiction Quiz”, an event during fest, based on the works of famous authors. The fest received a wonderful response. The residents of the nearby area were invited for this sale.

Library Training
Library training was organized for the library attendants. They learned all the aspects of the library management. At the end of the training they felt confident to face the library users since they gained knowledge of the Reference sources, E-Resources, and can search the information on the library database. The library attendants were given certificates. Mr. Bharat Salian, stood first and was awarded the trophy. Mr. Ravindra Bhorade stood second and third place was secured by Mr. Ramesh Singh.

Counseling Session for Library Staff
Counseling session on Employee Motivation and Conflict Resolution was organized which resulted into forming a Library Staff Reading Club and Regular sessions on Basic Spoken English for the Library Attendants in the library.

Book Displays/Sale
Book Displays were held on the various occasions. Display of old magazines and journals was organized, teachers selected relevant magazines and journals for their departmental use. The sale of the remaining magazines was arranged for the students.
