Jai Hind College Gymkhana

The proverb ' health is wealth ' is not forgotten till date, and therefore for a sound physical health, and mental health sports is mandatory. The all round development of a person is incomplete without sports and games. It develops in an individual the ability to live with zest, enthusiasm and determination. As a part of our education, all institutions should give importance to the sports activities.

In this context, our college can boast of having a very well-equipped gymkhana along with enthusiastic Physical Education teachers Mrs. Vandana Sawant and Mr. Sandesh Sthawarmath to guide the students. We have several equipments for indoor and outdoor games and exercise equipments. We also promote Indian games like Kho-Kho and Kabaddi. Following are the games in which our sportsmen participate in competitions at various levels. Sportsmen are awarded handsomely for their achievements with trophies, certificates and occasionally with cash prizes. College also sponsors with sports kits to deserving sports persons.

The gymkhana offers opportunities to both Junior and Senior College students to play indoor and outdoor games. Carom, chess and table tennis can be played boys common room of the main building. Football and swimming are encouraged and off-campus arrangements are made for these activities. Throw ball, tennis and cricket are also popular. Hiking and adventure camps attract many participants. Students are coached to compete in intercollegiate, state and national events.

Sports Talent Scholarships are also awarded to those who show remarkable talent in sports. Junior college students are encouraged to participate in sports for both individual and team events.

Gymkhana Council

It has an expanded gymkhana council headed by the Principal as President and Chairperson along with college staff as ex-officios, student’s secretaries, student volunteers and ex-secretaries along with alumni’s helping in the activities.

Literary and Debating Society

History
The Literary and Debating Society was founded in 1947, and is one of the oldest and most vibrant committees in the college.

Purpose

  1. To foster intra -college unity through debates.
  2. To facilitate harmony between Juniors and Seniors.
  3. To promote public speaking within the college.
  4. To encourage better interaction between students and teachers.
  5. To bring publicity to the college through its events.
  6. To promote brand jai hind.
  7. To encourage the all - round - development of students.
  8. To enhance the communication skills of the students.

Won prizes at Sathey College Debating Competition, Cama Institute Debating Contest , SRCC Ernst and Young Group Discussion, K.R. Cama Oriental Institute, Outlook Inter-collegiate Debate , Government Law College, Sophia College, K.P. Birla Foundation and Rotary Club Debate

HOBBY CENTRE

Introduction

Hobby Centre is dedicated to providing a forum for students to express their creativity, to develop their organizational skills and thereby develop their personalities holistically.The Hobby Centre organizes various workshops from time to time so that students can discover the talent and potential hidden within them and explore the possibilities of trying new hobbies. It also organizes The Personality Contest every year in order to crown Mr. and Ms. Jai Hind.

History/ Legacy

The Hobby Centre was founded over 30 years ago in order to provide talented and gifted students of the college with a platform to showcase their talent and develop their personalities. The Personality Contest hosted by The Hobby Centre is a unique event that was started on the inception of The Hobby Centre 32 years ago and is always a tremendous success. In this contest, students compete for the title of Mr. and Ms. Jai Hind.
Workshops held during the past year were on health and beauty, Ikebana arrangement of flowers, Calligraphy, Origami, Career Counseling, Salsa, Dr. Anjali Mukherjee’s Diet and Health, Cooking, Personality Development, etc.

The Social And Dramatic Union

The Social and Dramatic Union is one of the premier cultural societies of the college. Its objective is to scout for talent in various fields. This talent is then nurtured and honed to perfection through workshops and training followed by which they are sent for Intra and Inter-Collegiate festivals. The SDU provides the students with a platform not only to showcase their talents but also win laurels prizes and trophies for themselves and for the college.
